ByteDance Seed forms model alignment and preparedness unit

ByteDance's Seed division has announced the creation of a new Seed Model-Alignment&Preparedness department, according to an internal email cited by ChainCatcher. The new unit will be led by Yan Lin and will report to Wu Yonghui, the head of Seed. As part of the change, the original Responsible AI team and some members of the Chat team will move into the new department. The stated goal is to step up investment in safety and alignment work. In the email, alignment was described as keeping model behavior consistent with human intent and safety constraints. The new department is also tasked with improving the safety capabilities of Agent Model systems and guarding against frontier capability risks tied to chemistry, biology, radiation, and nuclear domains.
